“Your luck is finally changing! You can only go so far down before you start going up, right?” – My Dad
I’m only in my early 30s but
I’ve lived through enough drama to last several lifetimes. Some of it was through self-inflicted mistakes, some of it was through other people or fate. While I know that there are others who have suffered much stronger trials, I often wondered if I’d ever survive and if life would ever improve. Life continues to have its struggles, but they have become easier to endure over time, as I have grown into a stronger person and have learned to find the humor in situations I often wouldn’t have before.
The Phoenix was the legendary bird of the ancient Greeks who was known to engulf itself in flames every several hundred years, then rise again – anew – from its own ashes. (Before the phoenix was the bennu of the ancient Egyptians; several other cultures have also featured self-rejuvinating creatures.) We have all experienced such periods of rebirth in our lives, sometimes by choice, often through necessity. Ideally we walk away as better people for it. I have come a long way in life, but still have a ways to go. We never stop learning from our experiences and from each other, and hopefully we continue to find reasons to keep laughing at the same time!
