Who the Heck is Larry Csonka?

If you're like me and you don't follow sports, you may not have first understood all the Larry Csonka (pronounced "Zonka") references Mike and the bots supplied for us. As we all know Mystery Science Theater 3000 is rich with references to all sorts of aspects of our culture, and this is one that went over my head, so I did some research on the web.

Basically, Larry Csonka is well-known for playing with the Miami Dolphins football team during the 1970s. (Hence Servo's comment, "Of course, it's set to Miami time," when the camera focused on the clock after its bells counted the time.) He was very popular and was known by the nickname "Zonk," introducing a new noun/verb to the language. He was voted Super Athlete of the Year by the Professional Football Writers Association in 1973, and continues to reign as one of the Top 20 leading runners in NFL history. He is currently hosting two nature and outdoor programs on television.
