Sylvia Solberg

Sylvia Solberg, 82, of Warroad, MN, formerly of Greenbush, MN, died early Monday morning, November 19, 2018 in the Warroad Senior Care Center.

Sylvia Petra (Viseth) Solberg was born on November 10, 1936 to parents Peder and Sarah (Teigland) Viseth in Mayville, North Dakota. She attended school in Grand Forks, ND, graduating from Grand Forks Central High School in 1954. She married Harlan Solberg on October 18, 1956 in Crookston, MN. They then moved to Greenbush, MN where they raised their five boys. She worked at Arctic Cat, Ace Store, and was the Activities Director at the Greenbush Nursing Home for 15 years before her retirement.

Sylvia was very active in the Greenbush community and was named Woman of the Year in 1987. She was longtime member of Bethel Lutheran Church and was involved in Women’s Circle, Sunday School, Release Time, and volunteered for countless Dumpling Days. She also served many years with the local Boy Scouts.

Her hobbies included cooking, catering events, and making Lefse, baking buns, cookies and donuts. She was an avid sports fan and loved watching her boys play for the Greenbush Tigers as well as traveling to watch her grandchildren compete in their various activities. She also cheered loud for the Minnesota Twins and Phoenix Suns.

Sylvia and Harlan enjoyed traveling around the country in their motorhome, often accompanied by their grandchildren. One of her favorite memories was her trip to Norway taken with her sisters, Adelaide, Jeanette, and Dorothy, in 1987. Sylvia was very fond of spending time with her 8 grandchildren, spoiling them with love, cookies, and her famous donuts.

Sylvia is survived by her husband of 62 years, Harlan Solberg of Warroad, MN; sons Rick Solberg, Greenbush, MN, Scott (Becky) Solberg, Greenbush, MN, Brad (Beth) Solberg, Buffalo, MN, and Jason (Terri) Solberg, Glyndon, MN; grandchildren Kelsey (Steve) Roth, Fargo, ND, Kasey Solberg, Badger, MN, Anna (Dustin) Stewart, Salol, MN, Adam (SamieJo) Solberg, Salol, MN, Jaden Solberg, Greenbush, MN, Blake Solberg, Minneapolis, MN, Blair (Taylor) Main, St. Louis Park, MN and Blaze Solberg, Minneapolis, MN. Step-grandchildren Misty Donahue, Fargo, ND, Brody Bulow, Greenbush, MN, Mel Lee, Thief River Falls, MN, Kaitlyn Bulow, Greenbush, MN; great grandchildren Nora Roth, Kalliann Solberg, Brevyn Agre, Tate Solberg, Avery Stewart; step-great grandchildren Genesis, Cambria, Pfieffer, and Paxton Donahue, Colbie and Titan Bulow; sisters Dorothy (Ed) Beck, Minnetonka, MN and Jeanette Taylor, Scottsdale, AZ.

She was preceded in death by her son Randy Solberg; parents Peder and Sarah Viseth; sister Adelaide Heath; brothers Prentice, Gerald, Ordell, and Donnie Viseth.

Thank you to the Warroad Senior Living Center Staff for your wonderful friendship, caring support, and all the laughs and memories you created during her time with you. Sylvia loved you all immensely. 

A funeral service celebrating Sylvia's life was held on Saturday, November 24, at 10:30a.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church in Greenbush, with Pastor Mary Gilthvedt, officiating. Musicians were Linda Sovde, organist and vocalist was Jeanne Novacek.  Readers were Kelsey Roth & Blair Main. Pallbearers were Kasey, Adam, Blake & Blaze Solberg, Steve Roth, Dustin Stewart and Taylor Main.  Burial was in Bethel Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements were with Gieseke Funeral Chapel of Greenbush.
