Rosie Roisland


       Rosie Roisland, 95, of Karlstad, MN, died on Friday January 23, 2009 in the Karlstad Healthcare Center.

       Rosie Roisland, was born Rosie Evelyn Jorgenson, the daughter of John & Emmy (Hanson) Jorgenson, on January 12, 1914 in western North Dakota.  As a young girl, she moved with her family to the St. Hilaire, MN area and grew up on a farm there.  She married Obert Roisland when she was 18 and they moved to Roseau County, MN.  They raised 3 daughters.  Obert Roisland died in 1962 at the age of 52.  Rosie was a long time member of the Bethlehem Free Lutheran Church at rural Greenbush and was active in their Ladies Aid and other groups.  Rosie was a great cook!  In the late 60’s she cooked for various farms in the Argyle and Stephen, MN areas.  They raised a huge garden every year and picked lots of berries to can for the long winters. 

  SURVIVED BY:  1 daughter—Violet Langaas of Karlstad, MN.

       5 grandchildren:  Vern D. (Mary) Langaas of Greenbush, MN,

 Vaughn Langaas of Karlstad,   Kevin (Karla) Langaas of Greenbush,

 Kimberly (Steve) Olson of Karlstad, & Darin Hvidsten of North  Dakota.

      11 great-grandchildren:  Mikkel, Cara Jean, Alyssa, Katlyn, John, Ethan, Sydney, Brandon & Benjamin Langaas, Nicholas & Hailey Olson.

       2 sisters—Lillian (Wilbur) Koop of Hallock, MN and Myrtle Reimen of Washington State.   2 brothers—Fred Jorgenson of Thief River Falls, MN and Raymond Jorgenson of Arizona.

      She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 daughters—Lila Hvidsten, accidently at age 25 and Delores Pietz in 1993 at age 58, 1 granddaughter—Loretta Hvidsten, 2 sisters and 4 brothers.

      Funeral Services were held on Wednesday, January 28, in First Lutheran Church of Karlstad with Reverend Gary Halverson, officiating.  Special vocal music was provided by Arlene Jenson and The Hodne Family Singers. Corienne Jacobson was at the organ.  Casket Bearers were Vern D., Vaughn, Kevin, Ethan, Brandon, Benjamin, Mikkel and John Langaas, Steve & Nicholas Olson. Arrangements were with Gieseke Funeral Chapel of Greenbush.
