Raymond Schaller

          Raymond Henry Schaller, the son of Emil & Katie (Ambacher) Schaller, was born December 5, 1931 in Greenbush, MN. He grew up and attended school in Greenbush. Raymond went on to serve 2 years in the US Marine Corps.  He returned home to work on the Schaller family farm west of Greenbush, MN on Highway 11. He farmed for many years with his brother Clayton, raising grain, cattle, and potatoes. He also enjoyed driving the tractors and working with his nephews, Gary & Ward Wilson, in the fields.

 

          Raymond married Lizzie Schires on June 2, 1989. She passed away on March 29, 2005. Raymond and Delores Sharp, childhood sweethearts, reunited after 50 years and were married on July 14, 2006 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in St. Paul, MN. They lived on the Schaller family farm.

 

          Raymond actively participated in the Greenbush community. He was a member of the Hereim Township Board for many years, a member of United Free Lutheran Church of Greenbush, and a member of the VFW. He enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, playing cards, cooking, baking, raising flowers, and feeding & watching the many birds in his front yard. One of Raymond’s favorite songs was ‘Seven Spanish Angels’ sung by brothers-in-law Jerome and Hilery Mrozek. Raymond was an excellent caregiver, loved spending time with children, and always made time to visit with family and friends over a cup of coffee.

 

          Raymond is survived by wife Delores of Greenbush; step-son Larry Mlodzik of Cottage Grove, MN; three step-grandchildren: Jason (Rachel; Sadie, Tony, & Scott), Jordan (Neesa; Christopher), & Samantha Mlodzik; one sister, Florence (Gerald) Dvergsten of Greenbush, MN; three godchildren: Celeste Engen, Nicholas Wilson, and Ethan Zimmerman; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives, and many friends.

 

          He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Clayton & his wife Louise, sister Maybelle & her husband William Wilson, and nephew Allan Wilson.

 

          Raymond Schaller passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on the morning of Saturday, May 18th, 2013 at LifeCare Greenbush Manor in Greenbush, MN at the age of 81 years, 5 months, and 13 days. He had the comfort and support of many family members and friends who visited him during the seven days that he was in the LifeCare Greenbush Manor. He will always be remembered for his loving and compassionate personality, his contagious smile, and his passion for life.

 

      Funeral Services were on Saturday, May 25, in United Free Lutheran Church of Greenbush, with Pastor LeRoy Petersen, officiating. Vocalists were Arlene Jenson, Howard Hodne, Nicholas Wilson & Chantal Wilson. Accompaniment by Barb Geer.  Robin Waage was at the organ.  Pallbearers were Gary & Ward Wilson, Oren, Neil & Pat Lund, Jim Swenson, Jerome & Aaron Burkel.  Honorary pallbearers were his friends and family.

 

      Burial was in Bethel Lutheran Cemetery at Greenbush.  Military Honors were conducted by Moen-Zimek Post 88, American Legion of Greenbush.  Funeral arrangements were with Gieseke Funeral Chapel of Greenbush.
