Norman Strandberg

http://www.easton.ma.us/Directory/veterans/american-flag.jpg Norman Strandberg, 83, formerly of Strathcona, MN, passed away on Friday, January 18, 2013 at LifeCare Greenbush Manor in Greenbush, MN.

 

      Norman Regner Strandberg, the son of Rangnar & Tina Strandberg, was born July 16, 1929 in Strathcona, MN. During his childhood, he lived with his parents until age 10 and then found a home with Uncle Elmer & Aunt Mabel Hanson and with Kelly and Inez Gjovik. At the age of 17, he joined the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged after 20 years of service.

 

      On November 6, 1952, Norman married Luella Johnson in Lucedale, Mississippi. During and after his military career they lived in many locations including France, Kansas, Florida, California, North Dakota and the Iron Range, before settling in the Strathcona area. Norman was the co-founder of H & S Construction, a boilermaker, and a member of the Middle River American Legion. Norman loved singing, dancing and playing his guitar. Other hobbies included hunting, fishing and playing cards with family and friends. Over the years, Norman had many nicknames – Storm’n Norman, Swede and Sarge just to name a few.

 

      Norman had been a resident of LifeCare Greenbush Manor since 2005.

 

      Norman is survived by his wife Luella of 60 years.

Terry Strandberg of Green Bay, Wisconsin,

          and daughter Cheryl (Tim) Johnson of Thief River Falls, MN.

 

      12 Grandchildren—Aaron (Karie) Strandberg, Melissa (Aaron) Weil, Crystal (Andy) Rosen, Jenna (Ben) Ryan, Tegan Bakke, Jordan (Ben) Bartling, Shealyn Bakke, Carver Strandberg, Brianna Strandberg, Tyler Strandberg, Dana Olson & Cameo (Lucas Thomas) Olson.

 

      Five great-grandchildren—Aidan & Chase Strandberg, Brielle & Micah Ryan & Lincoln Thomas.

 

      One brother—Virgil (Linda) Stahlberg of Iron, MN.

 

      Several nieces, nephews and cousins.

 

      He was preceded in death by his parents, those who raised him,

two brothers—Rudy and Ellerd Strandberg & three sisters—Marie Beito, Doris Tinsley and Charlotte Stahlberg in infancy and loyal family German Shepherd, “Shep.”

 

       Funeral Services were held on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 1:00 PM in Grace Evangelical Church in Strathcona, MN with Pastor Robert Ludwig, officiating. Organist was Pat Ludwig and Vocalists were Arlene Jenson and JoAnne Strandlund.  Casket Bearers were Jackson Stahlberg, Harlan Olson, Don & Casey Johnson, Wayne Hanson & Jerry Strandberg.  Honorary Pallbearers were Norman’s grandchildren & great-grandchildren and the LifeCare Greenbush Manor Residents & Staff.  Military Honors were accorded by the American Legion Post 444 of Middle River, MN.  Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery at Strathcona.  Arrangement were with Gieseke Funeral Chapel of Greenbush.
