Mavis Johnson

       Mavis Johnson, 79, of Greenbush, MN died on Friday, February 26, 2010 in LifeCare Medical Center at Roseau, MN.  

      Mavis Johnson was born Mavis Elaine Mugaas, to parents Adelsten & Myrtle Alice Pearl (McDonagh) Mugaas, on November 8, 1930 at Gatzke, MN.  She attended grade school at Gatzke and later graduated from Newfolden High School.  She married Wallace Russil Johnson on November 13, 1948.  They lived at Gatzke until moving to Greenbush in 1957.  Besides raising her family, she did childcare, domestic housekeeping and worked for Dr. Mattson at the Veterinary Clinic in Greenbush.  She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church and its ladies groups.  She enjoyed gardening, reading, working with antiques and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her  husband—Wallace.

  2 sons—Russell Johnson of Laughlin, Nevada &

               Forrest (MaryLou) Johnson of Roseau, MN.

  2 daughters—Barb (Jerome) Brazier of Alexandria, MN &

                        Karyl (Keith) Langaas of Strathcona, MN.

  12 grandchildren—Thyann Herbert, Jarrod Johnson, Lindsey Johnson, Kim Brazier, Jason Brazier, Kristin Belin, Jed Brazier, Kiley Benz, Travis Johnson, Tara Lease, Alexa Langaas, and Trey Langaas.

  12 great-grandchildren—Gaetana Johnson, Sebastian & Briana Bergeron, Henry & Frank Brazier, Morgan & Samantha Belin, Jackson Reitmier-Brazier, Chloe Benz, Addyson & Ty Johnson, and Noah Lease.

    Also her beloved friends, “The Churchill Girls”:  Ginny, Kim & Mary.

    2 sisters—Janice (Phil) McClellan of Newton, North Carolina & Adelyn        Lundmark of Sulphur, Louisiana.

    2 Sisters-in-law—Carol Mugaas of Naples, Florida and

                               Joyce Steenerson of Henderson, Nevada.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers—Marvin “Buddy” Mugaas & Clinton Mugaas, 2 grandchildren & 1 great-granddaughter—Giovanna Johnson.

     Funeral Services were held on Monday, March 1, 2010 in Bethel Lutheran Church of Greenbush with Pastor Mark Mathews, officiating.  Robin Waage was the organist and Jered Lease was the Reader.  Pallbearers were her grandsons: Jason & Jed Brazier, Jarrod & Travis Johnson, Richard Belin, Trey Langaas, Jered Lease, Dustin Benz & Sebastian Bergeron.  All of Mavis’s friends were Honorary Pallbearers.  Interment was in Opdahl Cemetery at rural Newfolden, MN with Gieseke Funeral Chapel of Greenbush in charge of arrangements.
