Marilyn Walsh, 71, of Greenbush, MN, died Tuesday, March 1, 2016 in Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.
Marilyn Walsh was born Marilyn Katherine Mischel to parents Joseph & Mary (Schuld) Mischel on July 5, 1944 at Richardton, North Dakota. She was baptized into the Catholic faith. She moved with her family as a young girl to Glendive, Montana, where she attended school and graduated from Dawson County High School in 1962. She married Philip Thomas Walsh on May 4, 1963 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glendive. They lived several places before settling in Kalispell, MT in 1967. By this time they had 3 children. Marilyn was a full-time housewife & mother. She volunteered her time as a kitchen assistant at St. Mathew’s Catholic School.
In 1978 they moved to Greenbush, MN where they farmed east of town. Marilyn worked for 10 years at Marvin Windows in Warroad. She was an active member of Blessed Sacrament Church in Greenbush and was currently serving on the pastoral council. Marilyn was a member of the American Legion & the V.F.W. Auxiliaries.
She enjoyed crocheting, cooking, baking & houseplants. She took great pride in her kids and family. She especially enjoyed keeping up with family news and accomplishments. She was a devoted wife and mother.
She is survived by her 3 children—Michael Walsh of Greenbush, Katherine (Todd) Fillmore of Middle River, MN & Jerome (Michelle) Walsh of Roseau, MN.
4 grandchildren—Elizabeth & Margaret Zavoral, Sarah & Luke Fillmore.
4 step-grandchildren—Bobbie Jo Kuznia (fiancé Keith Woodruff), Misty (Tom) Larsen, Jared (Erin) Anderson & Stephanie (Chris) Nelson.
10 great-grandchildren—Jazmin Christopherson, Morgan Kuznia, Madison & Mason Woodruff. Olivia & Jaden Anderson, Ty & Kohen Larsen, Caelum & Tate Nelson.
3 brothers—James (Marilyn) Mischel, Henry (Darla) Mischel & Robert (Linda) Mischel, all of Glendive, MT.
2 brothers-in-law—Leo Walsh of Baudette, MN & John (Delores) Walsh of West Fargo, ND.
She was preceded in death by her husband Philip on November 14, 2008, her parents, a brother who died at birth, sister-in-law—Helen & husband Ted Vacura, & brother-in-law—William Walsh.
Funeral Services were held on Monday, March 7 in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Greenbush with Father Luis Buitron, officiating. Music was provided by Jeanne Novacek & Nikke Wojchowski. The reader was Frank Dostal and the Eucharistic Ministers were Elinor Koshenina & Corinne Dostal. Altar Servers were Jack Peppel, Ely & Ethan Novacek. Gift Bearers were Beth & Maggie Zavoral, Sarah & Luke Fillmore. Pallbearers were Brent & Charles Walsh, James Berger, Mark Shimpa, Larry Borgen & Richard Niemela. The Honorary Group was made up of members of the American Legion Auxiliary and the V.F.W. Auxiliary.
A prayer service was held on Sunday evening in church with Father Luis Buitron, officiating. Music was by Jeanne Novacek & Nikke Wojchowski. The reader was Joy Sand. The Rosary was led by Charles Walsh.
Interment was in Blessed Sacrament Cemetery with Gieseke Funeral Chapel of Greenbush, in charge of arrangements.
