
M. Marcella Nelson
M. Marcella Nelson, 96, of Strathcona, MN died on early Thursday morning, February 24, 2011 in LifeCare Greenbush Manor at Greenbush, MN.
Marcella “Mickey” Nelson was born Mildred
Marcella Anderson, the daughter of Eddie O. & Pauline (Hatle)
Anderson, on December 25, 1914 at Ellendale, MN. She came with her parents to settle in Hereim Township, south of Greenbush, MN when she was two
years old. She was baptized and
confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. She
attended the Dock School near her home until the 8th grade. She graduated from Greenbush High School in
1933 and attended Teachers College at New Richland, MN, graduating in
1934. She taught schools for two years
at rural Karlstad and for two years at Winjum School
#68 in Deer Township where she met her future husband. She married Marvin Iver
Nelson on June 14, 1938 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.
They farmed in Deer Township, between
Greenbush and Strathcona, MN for many years. Marvin
died on April 11, 1995. Marcella enjoyed cooking, baking, babysitting her
granddaughters and going for rides with Marvin.
Marcella was a member of Poplar Grove Free
Lutheran Church where she served as church pianist for many years. She held
several offices in the Poplar Grove W.M.F., treasurer being the most recent
which she held until 2010. Marcella had been a resident of LifeCare
Greenbush Manor for the past seven months.
Marcella is survived by one son—Marlo and his wife Paulette Nelson of Strathcona,
MN.
3 granddaughters—Kathy (Paul) Hendrickson
of Carrington, ND, Lynette (Dave) Blazek
of Greenbush, MN & Angela (Tony) Lorentz of East Grand Forks, MN.

great-grandchildren—Austin, Lucas & Lauren Hendrickson, Tessany
& Cole Blazek. 1 sister—Alice Miller of Greenbush.
She was preceded in death by her parents,
husband and 1 sister—Pearl Anderson.
Funeral Services were held on Monday,
February 28, 2011, at United Free Lutheran Church of Greenbush with Pastor LeRoy Petersen, officiating. Robin Waage was the
organist and Marie Olson was the soloist.
Casket Bearers were Paul Hendrickson, Dave Blazek, Tony Lorentz, Laurel Majer, Arlyn Anderson, Norbert
Johnson & Roger Lorenson. Interment was in Poplar Grove Cemetery at
rural Strathcona with Gieseke
Funeral Chapel of Greenbush in charge of arrangements.
