Leslie Melby

      Leslie Kenneth Melby, the son of Dewey & Manda (Jackson) Melby was born at Dahlton, Saskatchewan, Canada.  He came to the U.S. at the age of 19.  He worked at Scobey, Montana before he married Harriet Erickson on November 6, 1951 at Roseau, MN.  He entered the U.S. Army in 1952 and served in Korea.  After his discharge in 1954, he worked at Scobey, MT for a local farmer.  He later lived at Libby, MT where he worked as the school custodian and in construction work.  In 1971 they moved to Greenbush, MN.  Leslie worked in North Dakota Missile Silo construction and at the Drayton, ND Sugar Beet Plant. He worked for Polaris Industries in Roseau, MN for many years retiring in 1994.

 

      Leslie enjoyed cooking, gardening, ice fishing and woodworking.  He was a member of the V.F.W. and the Greenbush American Legion.

 

      Leslie is survived by his wife of 60 years—Harriet.

3 sons—Alan (Glenda) Melby of Tucson, AZ,  Ray (Jewell) Melby of Barnett, MO & Lonnie (Jody) Melby of Redlands, CA.

1 daughter—Lisa (Gary) Geske of Thief River Falls, MN.

  5 grandchildren—Matthew, Jason, Christopher & Kelly Melby & Kayla Geske. 

  2 step-grandchildren—J.B. & Barb Wallace. 

  2 great-grandchildren—Ryan & Brooke Melby and

  3 step-great-grandchildren—Kiarra, James & Angel.

1 sister—Ethlyn Hermanson of Walker, MN.

 

      He was preceded in death by his parents,    1 sister—Thora Gorrell and    

 3 brothers—Ivan Melby, Millard Melby & infant brother Alvin Melby.

 
      Funeral Services for Leslie were held on Saturday, December 31, 2011 in Oiland Lutheran Church of rural Greenbush with Pastor Jim Christenson, officiating.  Vocal & instrumental music was provided by Tammy Wahl, Arlene Jenson, JoAnne & Rose Ann Strandlund, Howard Hodne & Delphin Wahl.  Pallbearers were Richard Wojciechowski, Tom & Arlys Dann, Lois Jackson, Stanley Melby & Gary Geske.  Military Honors were provided by Moen-Zimek Post 88, American Legion of Greenbush.  Interment was in Badger City Cemetery at Badger, MN with Gieseke Funeral Chapel of Greenbush in charge of arrangements.
