Juliette Larson Nelson, 80, of Warroad, MN, passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 in Warroad Senior Living Center at Warroad, MN after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
Juliette Larson Nelson was born Juliette Ethel Wicklund, the daughter of Eric & Alma (Rud) Wicklund on September 19, 1934 at Strathcona, MN. She married EllKay Larson in 1954, and they set up their residence in Munich, ND. She graduated with a B.S. degree in Education from Mayville State University, which started her teaching career. Julie taught elementary school in Munich, ND and Kennedy, MN for 40 plus years, (they moved in 1976). EllKay died in November of 1992.
Juliette was united in marriage to Donald Nelson on June 27, 1998. Julie enjoyed spending summer time at Birch Beach on Lake of the Woods, and winters in Apache Junction, AZ. She was known for picking gallons of wild blueberries and then giving them away, making endless sheets of lefse, gardening, stained glass art and enjoying time with friends and family.
She is survived by her husband, Donald Nelson; Son—Jay (Karolyn) Larson of Grand Forks, ND; Daughter—Lisa Larson-Crandall of Sioux Falls, SD; grandsons—Jake Larson and Dan Murphy; several great-grandchildren, a large extended family including: Donavan Nelson of Gillette, WY, Marla Augustine of Holt, MN, Jodi (Doug) Schulz of Grygla, MN, Darwin (Sue) Nelson, Nancy (Dan) Engen & Jay Nelson, all of Newfolden, MN, and a Swedish son—Fredrik Arbin.
Brothers—Don (Doris) Wicklund and Russell (Kathy) Wicklund, all of Greenbush, MN, Nels (Cleone) Wicklund & Ervin (Ione) Wicklund, all of Auburn, WA. Sister—Ione (Tom) Kraus of Auburn, WA, Brother-in-law—David Hyllengren of Palm Desert, CA and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband—EllKay, a son—Jeffery; Brothers—Lloyd & Ferdie Wicklund; sisters—Loreen Sovde and Sandra Hyllengren.
A Memorial service for Juie was held on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at 10:30 AM in Bethel Lutheran Church of Greenbush with Pastor Mark Mathews, officiating. Music was provided by Jodi & Leah Schulz and Vicki Saude-Worthington. Also a special recorded selection by the late Sandra Hyllengren was presented. Honorary Pallbearers were Julie’s friends and family.
Inurnment was in The Kennedy Cemetery at Kennedy, MN with Gieseke Funeral Chapel of Greenbush in charge of arrangements.
