Joan Fugleberg

 

      Joan Fugleberg, 89, of Greenbush, MN, died Friday, January 9, 2015 in LifeCare Greenbush Manor at Greenbush, MN.

 

      Joan Fugleberg was born Joan Irene Johnson, the daughter of Henry & Betsy (Twistol) Johnson, on October 3, 1925 in Pelan Township, Kittson County, rural Karlstad, MN.  She attended the Webster Country School and graduated from Karlstad High School in 1944.

 

      Joan married Vernon “FugieFugleberg on January 5, 1945 at her parent’s home in rural Karlstad.  She was a homemaker and worked a short time as an aide in the Greenbush Hospital.  She was always more than willing to help with the grandchildren when needed.  She was an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Greenbush and was a Cub Scout Den Mother for many years.  Her hobbies included oil painting, knitting, flower gardening, bird watching and dancing.  She loved having friends in for coffee and entertaining during the holidays.  She and her friend Margaret Anderson spent many years traveling to Arizona for the winter months.

 

      Joan & Fugie lived their entire married life in Greenbush, where they raised their 3 children.  Fugie died on January 15, 1988.  Joan continued to live in Greenbush until 2010 when she moved into Oak Crest in Roseau, MN for a year and then moved back to Greenbush to LifeCare Assisted Living until August, 2013 when she entered LifeCare Greenbush Manor.  She enjoyed Wii Bowling, Bingo and playing cards while she lived in her new homes.

 

      Joan is survived by her daughter—Sandy and husband John Stauffenecker of
Greenbush, MN.   2 daughters-in-law—Debbie Osborne of Thief River Falls, MN and  Patty Pieterick of Willmar, MN.

 

      7 grandchildren—Jeff (LeAnn) Stauffenecker of Willmar, MN,  Troy (Mary) Stauffenecker of Greenbush,  BreAnn (Justin) Walseth of Chandler, AZ,  Tera (Travis) Collins of Moorhead, MN,  Derek Fugleberg of Grand Forks, ND,  Magen (Darrin) Schirmer of Willmar, MN & Whitney Fugleberg of Richfield, MN.

 

      11 great-grandchildren—Jenna, Abby, Amy and Kyle Stauffenecker,   Boston and Milana Walseth,  Masson and Myles Collins,  Jaxin and Sawyer Schirmer,  Isabella Fugleberg   and Quinn Dahlin.

 

      Brother—Lionel (Arbutus) Johnson of Karlstad,  Sisters-in-law—Ruby Holdahl of AZ and Blanche Dasenbrock of WA,  and Special Friend Shine Zimmer of Grand Forks, ND.

 

      She was preceded in death by her parents, husband,  sons—Glen in 1986 and Jim in 2006.  Great-granddaughter—Anna  Stauffenecker in 1998.  Sisters—Rose , Helen and Betty and brothers—Lloyd, Henry, Bennie, Elmer and Bert.

 

      Funeral Service were held on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 in Bethel Lutheran Church of Greenbush with Pastor Mark Mathews, officiating. Linda Sovde was the organist and Dion Larson was the vocalist.  Casket Bearers were Jeff & Troy Stauffenecker, BreAnn Walseth, Tera Collins, Derek Fugleberg, Magan Schirmer,Whitney Fugleberg, Chelsey Dallmann & Jordan Osborne.  Honorary Pallbearers were her Great-Grandchildren and the staff and residents of LifeCare Greenbush Manor.

 

      Burial was in Bethel Lutheran Cemetery with Gieseke Funeral Chapel of Greenbush in charge of funeral arrangements.
