Helen Burkel, 90, of Badger, MN, died on Sunday, November 28, 2010 in LifeCare Greenbush Manor, Greenbush, MN.
Helen Burkel was
born Helen Louise Madson, the daughter of Chris &
Aase (Besserud) Madson, on June 7, 1920 at Pinecreek,
MN. She married Matheau
A. Burkel on January 28, 1942. They resided in Seattle, Washington for 2
years. Matt was in the U.S. Navy and
later was a carpenter. At this time one
daughter was born, Janice LaVonne. They moved back to Badger, MN where their son
was born, Michael Allen. They raised turkeys at Badger for many years
until they retired. Matt Burkel died on January 2,
2007. Helen had been a resident for LifeCare Greenbush Manor for the past 3 years.
She is survived by 1 daughter—Janice,
and husband LeRoy Bever of
Badger. 1 son—Michael,
and wife Joyce Burkel of Thief River Falls, MN.
Grandchildren: Cindy (Curtis Haugen) Burkel,
Rodney & Rob (Leslie) Nesteby. Step-granddaughter—Toni
(Matt) Nemec.
Great-grandchildren—Charlene (Danny Westman) Melvie, Catelyn
& Nash Sovde.
Step-great-grandchildren—Alan & Justin Nemec, Brady, Brooke & David Winrow.
Great-great-grandchildren—AllyMarie Gravelle & Chaya Westman.
2 sisters-in-law—Ruby Madson of Bemidji, MN & Susie Schires
of Greenbush.
2 brothers-in-law—Tony Burkel of San
Juan, Texas & Raymond (Delores) Schaller of Greenbush.
She
was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 1 daughter—Charlene, Sisters
& their husbands—Adeline (Wilmar) Gunderson, Edna
(Rudy) Nordengen.
Brothers & their wives—Melvin (Lois) Madson, Clayton Madson & Carl
(Helen) Madson.
Brothers-in-law &
wives—John (Isabelle) Burkel, George (Eva) Burkel, Peter (Lillian) Burkel,
Barney Burkel, Ed & Jack Schires
& sister-in-law Lizzie Schaller.
Funeral Services were held on Saturday,
December 4, 2010 in The Roseau Community Church in Roseau, MN with pastor Bob
Ludwig, officiating. Pat Ludwig was the
organist and Sandy Dunham was the vocalist.
Pallbearers were Mike & Joyce Burkel, LeRoy & Janice Bever and all
of the Grandchildren, Great-Grandchildren and Great-Great-Grandchildren. Interment was in Badger City Cemetery at
Badger, MN with Gieseke Funeral Chapel of Greenbush
in charge of arrangements.
