Harvey Melby, 73, of rural Badger, MN
died peacefully on Wednesday, August 25, 2010 in Altru Hospital of Grand Forks
after a courageous 6 month battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
Harvey Arthur Melby, the son of Enock
& Tilda (Dokken) Melby was born December 7, 1936, at his parents farm in
Moose Township, Roseau County, rural Badger, MN. He was baptized, confirmed and a lifelong
member of the Oiland Free Lutheran Church.
He attended school at the Old Haug School, later the Haug-Leo School and
graduated from Greenbush High School in 1955.
Harvey was a lifelong farmer, raising feeder pigs and small grains. Harvey married Rebecca Olmstead Anderson on
April 30, 1977 in Badger, MN. He served
35 years as a Moose Township Supervisor and was also a member of the Galilee
Bible Camp Corporation Board. Harvey enjoyed farming, visiting, attending
sporting and school events and car races, hunting, fishing, volunteering,
woodworking, oil painting and music. He
loved spending time with family and friends, especially with his grandchildren.
He is survived by wife—Becky Melby.
2 daughters—Patti & husband Paul
Robinson of Badger & Laura & husband Dwayne Mast of Roseau, MN.
4 Grandchildren: Anisa & Trever Robinson and Eliana &
Ava Mast.
4 brothers—Loyd, Vernon, Donald and Gary
Melby, all of Badger, MN.
and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents
and one infant brother.
Funeral Services were held on Sunday,
August 29 in Oiland Free Lutheran Church of rural Greenbush with Pastor Jim
Christenson, officiating. Martina Johnson was the Pianist. Vocal music was provided by Leland &
Kerri Melby, Wayne & Bruce Melby, Arlene Jenson & Bill Wagner. Pallbearers were Anisa & Trever Robinson,
Eliana & Ava Mast, David & Debbie Dokken, Franklin & LaRae
Frislie, Marty & Barb Johnson, Stan
& Eileen Melby, Merlyn Alme & Gerald Graff. Honorary Pallbearers were the Moose Township
Officers, the Galilee Bible Camp Corporation Board, LifeCare Greenbush Manor
Staff and R & B Farms. Interment was in Oiland Cemetery with Gieseke
Funeral Chapel of Greenbush, MN in charge of arrangements.
