
Edith Melby
Edith Melby, age 102, of Greenbush, MN, died
early Sunday morning, March 28, 2010 in LifeCare-Greenbush
Manor at Greenbush.
Edith Melby was born Edith Lois McAllen, the daughter of William
John & Susan Marie (Calder) McAllen, on August 3, 1907 in Minneapolis,
MN. She graduated from the Devils Lake,
North Dakota School for the Deaf in 1928.
Edith married Ingmand
Melby on June 24, 1939 in Minot, ND. They lived and farmed in Solar Township, Roseau
County, rural Badger, MN, until 1969 when they moved into Greenbush, MN. Ingmand died on
December 17, 1989. Edith’s hobbies
included embroidery, quilting, crocheting, reading,
cooking and baking. She also worked at
the M&Q Café in Greenbush for several years. She was a member of Oiland
Lutheran Church.
Edith is survived by 2 grandchildren—Rewa Jane Melby of Mashpee,
Mass. and Shane Alan Melby
of Greenville, South Carolina.

great-granddaughter—Caitlin Melby. Also nieces, nephews and
other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents,
husband, her two children—daughter Jane Charlotte Melby
in 1962 and son James Allen Melby in 2004. Her 3 brothers—Samuel, Walter
& Paul McAllen and her sister—Winnie Larson.
Funeral Service was held on Thursday, April
1, 2010 in Oiland Lutheran Church of rural Greenbush
with Pastor Jim Christenson, officiating.
Lynn Balstad was the pianist and the vocalists
were Leland & Kerri Melby. Pallbearers were Stanley, Eileen, Harvey,
Becky, Loyd & Gary Melby. Interment was
in Oiland Cemetery with Gieseke
Funeral Chapel of Greenbush in charge of arrangements.
Edith’s family would like to express their
deepest appreciation for the tremendous care given to Edith during her time at LifeCare-Greenbush Manor.
