Alice Miller
Alice R. Miller, 99, of Greenbush, MN died Wednesday, September 6, 2017 in LifeCare Greenbush Manor at Greenbush.
Alice Miller was born Alice Rodella Anderson, the daughter of Eddie O. & Pauline (Hatle) Anderson, on January 8, 1918 in rural Greenbush, MN. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith.
She attended rural Dock School and graduated from Greenbush High School, Class of 1935. She attended teachers training in Thief River Falls, MN and then began teaching in rural schools.
Alice resumed her education in the late 1950’s by attending college classes during week-ends, evenings and summers. She did this while teaching at Grass Lake Country School and at Greenbush Public School. By example, she communicated her desire for lifelong learning and achievement to her family.
Alice married Ernest Miller on December 25, 1940 in Bethel Lutheran Church of Greenbush. They farmed in Barnett Township, rural Greenbush, until moving into Greenbush in 1995. She entered the Greenbush Nursing Home in 2010. She enjoyed her time at the new assisted living in Greenbush. As her needs increased she moved into the LifeCare Greenbush Manor Skilled Care Unit.
Alice enjoyed the farm setting. Cattle, poultry, hogs and sheep were all a part of the farm scene. She especially liked working with the sheep. Alice also liked to garden. She took great satisfaction in canning and preserving vegetables and fruits. Berry picking was recreation for her and her extended family. Alice became an avid Minnesota Twins fan in later life and was very happy when her children & grandchildren could attend the games.
She is survived by 3 daughters—Eunice (Marvin) McFarlane of Auburn, Washington; Paulette (Norbert) Johnson of Greenbush and Ardys (Roger) Lorenson of Greenbush.
7 grandchildren—Debi (Dan) Gronau, Karla (Kevin) Langaas, Anita (Bruce) Pleake, Jerry (Teresa) Johnson, Michelle (Tim) Nickols, Penny (Jason) Black and Dustin (Lyndsey) Lorenson.
18 great-grandchildren—Kampton Anderson, Krysta Anderson, Christopher Smith, Brandon Langaas, Jeramy Gronau, Stephen Gronau, Benjamin Langaas, Tori Pleake, Preston Wolff, Nikolas Tyson, Jesse Pleake, Tyler Nickols, Hanna Black, Spencer Tyson, Tanner Nickols, Keaton Black, Chase Lorenson & Brynn Lorenson.
1 great-great grandchild—Remington Smith.
4 sisters-in-law—Doris Wicklund & Adell Miller, both of Greenbush; Lillian Kriko of Brush Prairie, Washington; Dorothy Minske of Pengilly, MN.
Several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ernest on April 28, 2005. grandson—Donovan Lorenson, great-grandson—Shelby Smith. sisters—Marcella Nelson & Pearl Anderson.
Alice was a lifetime member of Bethel Lutheran Church and an honorary member of the BLCW.
Funeral Services were held on Tuesday, September 12, at 11 AM in Bethel Lutheran Church of Greenbush with Pastor Mark Mathews, officiating. Linda Sovde was the organist and vocal music was provided by Rachel Kapphahn. Jerry Johnson and Lynette Blazek were the Readers. Casket Bearers were Debi & Dan Gronau, Karla & Kevin Langaas, Anita & Bruce Pleake, Jerry & Teresa Johnson, Michelle & Tim Nickols, Penny & Jason Black, Dustin & Lindsey Lorenson. Honorary Casket Bearers were Alice’s 18 great-grandchildren.
Burial was in Bethel Lutheran Cemetery of Greenbush. Gieseke Funeral Chapel of Greenbush was in charge of funeral arrangements.
