Thanksgiving! Lutheran Church Sudanese Community

Stories of the Sudanese

George McGuire and Jacob Gai One day I took one of our Sudanese to Burger King and ordered at the drive through. As I started to pull away toward the take out window, I heard a small sound from my passenger and turned to look at him. He had his hand over his mouth and a sheepish grin on his face. "What is it?" I asked. In a quiet voice, struggling to suppress his laughter, and probably trying not to offend me he replied, "You were talking to a box!"

Mangong Akech at Papillion Fun Park We had three young men over to our home to celebrate Thanksgiving. My husband's parents, his sister and family and other sponsors also came. It was hard to tell if the guys were enjoying themselves that day. They watched TV after dinner and fell asleep on the couch.

However, the next day I received a thank you call for the day together. He said that he was very excited to come to our home. I asked why and he said he "was excited to meet Nathan's father and that it was an honor to meet him."

His culture gives special honor to parents.
